Luci Romberg Age: 30 From: Denver, CO but live in Los Angeles, CA discovered PK, how many years ago: 3.5 Team or communities: Tempest Freerunning http://www.tempestfreerunning.com/ http://www.luciromberg.com/ http://www.stuntwomen.com/home.htm Who are your inspirations? and why?
My parents are my inspirations because they are incredibly athletic and talented people. They both worked extremely hard for all that they accomplished. I look up to them so much and I wouldn't be where I am today without their support!! My teammates are also my inspiration. They taught me everything I know when it comes to freerunning and they have opened my eyes to so much more! What is your goal with Parkour and your life? My goal is to progress the movement in the best way I know how and that is simply to move. As long as I can continue to play around and move I will be a happy person. My goal is also to inspire more women to get involved. I want to show them through my actions that girls can have just as much fun and just as much success as the guys can. What is your honest opinion of Tranquil Movement? Justin is an amazing and talented, not just freerunner, but person as well. He has helped to progress this art form in several of the Art of Motion competitions and has had a lot of success!! Baby John is so inspiring to me because although he is young, he doesn't act like it. He just hangs out and trains just like anyone else. He has no ego and is a pleasure to be around. Big things will come from Baby John, Justin, and all of Tranquil Movement!! Greatest obstacle you are overcoming or have overcome? I would have to say being a women. I hate to say it but it's true. I can't jump as high or as far as the guys but it doesn't matter. That is what people need to understand. This art form is all about freedom. Whatever path you choose is the right path. Anyone can do it!! Anything else we should know about you? This sport has changed everything about me. It has opened my eyes to limitless possibilities and has given me the opportunity to explore my true self. I wish everyone could experience the knowledge only a freerunner understands :) Add Comment Week Ten 11/01/2011
Jeremy Hanson Age: 25 From: Lakewood, Colorado, USA discovered PK, how many years ago: About 2 years ago. Team or communities: I'm very proud to be training with the community in Colorado. http://www.youtube.com/user/ThisIsTheJer Who are your inspirations? and why? This may sound a little conceited, but I try to inspire myself. My love for the things I do is my inspiration. That being said, there are several qualities in others that inspire me. Honesty and hard work are two of the most inspiring qualities I see in others. I will always be more inspired by good character than intelligence or skill. I am always more impressed by others when I see them put forth good, honest, effort and when they try to be the best they can. What is your goal with Parkour and your life? My goal in life is to be better than myself before. I desire to keep improving myself, so that I can be a better person and a person who becomes more adept at what he does. My goal for parkour is to have fun. It's a great way to keep myself active, moving, and healthy. Training parkour keeps me sane, alert, and helps me become a better person. I love the community and I absolutely love moving. I don't think I could ever stop training Parkour. Improving my abilities within parkour helps keep parkour fun and challenging. However, I have very little desire to become a skilled parkour practitioner. My goal is purely to have a fun, healthy experience. What is your honest opinion of Tranquil Movement? Everyone in Tranquil Movement has been extremely hospitable to me. They have been immediately friendly and welcoming - even before I got to know many of them. Even though they are all very skilled athletes, I admire them because they are wonderful human beings, not because of their athletic skill. Greatest obstacle you are overcoming or have overcome? As I stated before, I am a person who is constantly trying to better himself. In the past, this has left me very discontented. I was never happy with where I was in life. The biggest obstacle I have overcome is learning to be content. I've learned to be very happy with my current situation and with how far I've come in achieving my personal goals. Anything else we should know about you? I absolutely love math and physics. I don't think I'd ever be able to have a job where I wasn't doing something technical in some way or another. As I've grown to see the beauty in them, they have become a necessary part of my life. I feel like I could easily write a book discussing the commonalities between math and parkour. The similarities regarding state of mind and progression are incredibly apparent. I also love teaching. I recommend that everyone finds a job they love going to, as I have done. Jeremy you are always a pleasure to have around, from day one, we have done nothing but laugh, laugh and talk...physics! Your kindness and supportive nature is something to truly be admired. You inspire me every time we hang out. Keep up the great work! We got your back. -Justin Sheaffer Week Nine 10/25/2011
Sam Frazier Age: 21 From: Tampa, Florida originally. moved to Colorado Springs in 2007 Discovered PK, how many years ago: I discovered parkour for the first time on a news report. my step-father at the time pointed it out to me back in 07 and I was very interested. Team or Communities: Team Aeolus, Anyone in Colorado http://www.facebook.com/sam.frazier2 http://www.facebook.com/AeolusParkour http://www.youtube.com/user/musicalparkour Who are your inspirations? and why?
my inspirations are Bruce Lee and my father. Lee has helped me understand new ways to look at the world and the people around me. to look at not only what i do but what others do from more than one perspective. humility, kindness and to be like water. My father (Sam Frazier IV) is my other inspiration. i remember long conversations when i was younger about life, right and wrong, and other topics while we played games of chess. I loved it. even now we still have discussions like those in the past. he has been there for me in the past and will be forever. What is your goal with Parkour and your life? My main goal in parkour is to treat it as a skill. like my Tang Soo Do, I train so incase i ever have to protect myself or others i can. same with parkour. if i ever have to run, i can. with life i hope one day to get in to the stunt business, using my acrobatic skills and martial arts to double in movies. eventually becoming a stunt choreographer. I love putting together scenes and thinking of ways for people to fight and run using different moves. What is your honest opinion of Tranquil Movement? I love what tranquil Movement has become. i remember when it was just starting out and training with you guys at artsports. i would pester you to teach me something new or come up with some crazy move that seemed impossible for you all to try. i did that cause i new i would never be able to try it. but Tranquil Movement has inspired me to follow what i want as peacefully as possible. for me Tranquil Movement means that the journey is what is important. not the destination. its called tranquil MOVEMENT not tranquil end of movement. its that moment in which you live at that point. in time. that one movement. that one Tranquil Movement. Greatest obstacle you are overcoming or have overcome? the greatest obstacle for me to over come that i am still trying to over come everyday is my anxiety of failing. i am terrified of it. so i push harder everyday to not disappoint others or show them that i am a failure. Anything else we should know about you? last thing you should know, i am a 2nd dan (degree) black belt of Tang Soo Do and head instructor at United States Tang Soo Do Colorado springs branch. my style of fighting and movement is based around the study of the four elements, Earth, Fire , Water, and Air/Wind. each of my movements is unique to one of these and i wear a necklace with a ring on it that depicts these four elements with there chinese symbol. Erica Madrid Age: 20 From: Boulder, Colorado Discovered PK, how many years ago: 1.5 Team or communities: APEX Movement, Movemental, Colorado Parkour, Everything Else. I would really like to thank APEX Movement and Movemental, and all the people involved for really pulling me into all this right off the bat, they have all been such a wonderful group of people, and I'm so luck to be a part of such an incredible community =D http://www.facebook.com/ApexMovement http://www.facebook.com/movemental http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1017219724 Who are your inspirations? and why?
My inspirations are literally anyone and everyone chasing their dreams (unless their dreams are robbing or other bad things, then not them). I get so inspired watching people enjoy their lives. If that means opening up a coffee shop, playing piano for a profession, or being a professional freerunner, whatever it is, as long as people are chasing their dreams, I am inspired by that, and I also try to inspire others by doing the same! What is your goal with Parkour and your life? My goal with Parkour is to continue making a living out of it, and do so FOREVER! In addition as far as life as a whole goes, I skateboard, and am also learning things such as kung-fu, breakdancing, pole fitness, and crossfit, and would like to eventually compete in the last two. In addition I play piano, guitar, and a little drums. I'm currently a student as CU Boulder and would like to major in Integrative physiology, nutrition, and minor in psychology (emphasis on sports) and spanish. I'd also like to get a degree in the natural medicines with things such as reflexology, herbal medicine, essential oils, healing diet, etc. What is your honest opinion of Tranquil Movement? The guys on it are all not only amazing athletes, but such cool people. Justin has been so nice and so has John, Noah, Brian, just everyone. They are awesome people to train with and give what we do a good name. Not to mention I love the team name! Greatest obstacle you are overcoming or have overcome? The greatest obstacle I am overcoming is fitting every thing I want to do in, everyday. With all the goals I have set for myself, I have to maintain constant focus, this means I have to miss out on a lot of "normal" college experiences, but I'm okay with it, because I love my life just the way it is! Anything else we should know about you? I know what I want out of life and I have every intention of getting it =) thanks so much for the interview, keep being awesome Tranquil! and thanks again to APEX Movement, Movemental, Colorado Parkour, and all the crazy cool people in the Parkour/Freerunning community! Mike Clark Age: 17 From: New Hampshire Discovered PK, how many years ago: 4 years ago Team or communities: The HUB Freerunning http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1640089966 http://www.facebook.com/pages/Hub-Freerunning/101384723254741?ref=ts http://www.youtube.com/user/EdgeParkour Who are your inspirations? and why?
My greatest inspiration is Christopher McCandless from the book and movie Into the Wild. He wasn't afraid of looking at the world in a different way and living his life differently. I want to live my life and train in a way that's unique, a way that's myself. What is your goal with Parkour and your life? My goal with parkour is to not lose sight of what's important. My parkour has started to give me amazing opportunities with art of motions, performances and even now a music video. What I don't want to do is lose who I am in the process of all of these opportunities. I still want to be that fourteen year old kid playing on the playground when I started, no matter where my training takes me. I would say this would be a goal in my life as well. What is your honest opinion of Tranquil Movement? I love all you guys at Tranquil Movement. I attended the T.I.T Jam last summer and it was easily one of the best trips of my life. The hospitality, the kindness and the friendship when I went out there were all more than what I could ever ask for. Greatest obstacle you are overcoming or have overcome? The biggest obstacle I had to overcome in my parkour was when I broke three fingers in my right hand. Being out of physical activity for three months took a serious toll on my body. I lost ten pounds of muscle mass just from being unable to exercise. I learned a lot though. I seriously reformed my style focusing a lot more on control and fluidity. I am actually grateful for that injury, even though it set me back, what it did mentally for me was worth the physical inactivity. Week Six 10/05/2011
Daniel Arroyo Age: 24 From: Tampa, FL Discovered PK: When I was a kid Training Pk: For about 4 years. Community: Axiom/Tampa Parkour http://www.facebook.com/DanielVArroyo http://www.facebook.com/tampaparkour http://www.youtube.com/user/DanielArroyoBlog http://www.youtube.com/user/CrazyRican158 Who are you inspirations? and why?
I don't really have anybody in particular but I do think Albert Einstein was an amazing individual... What is your goal with Parkour and your life? My goal is to be the best that I can be... What is your honest opinion of Tranquil Movement? I think they are a great foundation for people just getting into parkour and for those that are experienced and want to learn from others that respect movement. Greatest obstacle you are overcoming or have overcome? I would say my fathers/grandmothers/grandfathers death, but more recently finances.... Anything else we should know about you? Well I believe people should focus more about having fun with movement and less about trying to define and name things.. Week Five 09/27/2011
Trevor Ray Age: 23 From: Deer Park, NY Discovered PK, how many years ago: I've been training for about 4 years Team or Communities: NYPK http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=622993279 http://www.facebook.com/pages/NYPK/172011268040 http://www.youtube.com/user/TrevorRayParkour Who are your inspirations? and why?
There are so many Inspiring people out there and to name just a few wouldn't do them justice. Humanity (the average person) in itself is inspiring to me. The way our race evolves, regresses a step, then progresses two in return. The people who stay positive, even when it seems that hope has run out. To truly learn from your mistakes and make yourself a better person. That is my inspiration to push through life and make the most of everyday. What is your goal with Parkour and your life? I hope to be training for as long as I can move. I hope that parkour leeds me into having a career being a stunt man/double, and to be able to carry on teaching parkour to younger generations as I grow out of my prime. What is your honest opinion of Tranquil Movement? Always coming through with strong videos, and they are very enjoyable to watch. I have not had a chance to meet a lot of the team, but for the one that I have had the pleasure of training with, (Justin Sheaffer) gotta love em'. Greatest obstacle you are overcoming or have overcome? I would have to say it was a mental obstacle, truly breaking the shell and becoming who I was meant to be, becoming my own person. Just because you're breathing, doesn't mean you're alive, Don't be afraid to live. Week Four 09/20/2011
Dan Teel Age: 18 From: Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Discovered PK, how many years ago: 5 and a half years Team or communities: Just training with friends in the springs! http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1593920942 http://www.youtube.com/user/Flashblastx?feature=chclk Who are your inspirations? and why?
Personally for me my biggest inspiration for me has to me Michael Guthrie. He tricks, doesn’t do parkour, but what he is doing with just the human body is beyond comprehension. You can tell that man must train so hard to have such perfect and pleasing tricks to watch. I love tricking also so for me he has got to be the biggest inspiration. My other inspiration is Travis Pastrana. I don’t think any human is a battered and bruised as he is and just keeps going and pushing the level of his sport. Truly inspiring how he can get back up every time and keep going and still be beyond his competition. His carefree and nice attitude is also something to be admired. My last person but certainly not least! Scott Skeleton!!! He just admits such positivity to me and I feel is a great person to look up too. Not to mention his tricks are pretty darn insane! I feel his positivity brings so many people happiness with his feel good samplers, and definitely inspires me to be the best Dan Teel possible!! What is your goal with Parkour and your life? My goal for parkour is just to be able to keep doing it! Right now I am taking a break from parkour to let my body heal. I don’t know how long it will be but I hope to return in better health so that I can actually progress without pain. My life goal is just to be happy and enjoy the things I have! I would love to have a family and enjoy the company of loving friends for as long as I can! While I know most strive to live off parkour that just isn’t for me. I am just going to keep it as something close to my heart forever! What is your honest opinion of Tranquil Movement? I think it sends a good message of positivity! I know a lot of kids in Colorado look up to you with what you guys are doing; I hope you guys do great in whatever you aim for! I used to be a part of Tranquil so it’s cool to watch it grow and see what direction it will take!! Greatest obstacle you are overcoming or have overcome? Oh man I would definitely have to say Tendonitis! This dumb stuff has bothered me for the last 3 or 4 years if I had to guess haha! I have it in both elbows at the moment and a little in my knees still thus that is the reason I’m resting once again! I have had some real lows because of it but I guess it teaches you to appreciate what you have while you have it! I plan on beating it once again! :) Anything else we should know about you? Not much! Just a guy living and hoping to help and inspire anyone along the way, If I have inspired someone in any way then I feel like I have accomplished something to be proud of. With that I hope everyone reading this is doing wonderful and if not, just smile! :) Week Three 09/13/2011
Christopher Hollingsworth Age: 18 From: Manitou Springs, Colorado, USA Re-discovered PK, how many years ago: I rediscovered myself through Parkour about 5 years ago. Team or communities: I am the founding member of "Team Aeolus" http://www.youtube.com/user/TeamAeolus http://www.facebook.com/AeolusParkour Who are your inspirations? and why? In terms of Parkour, I have two fantastic inspirational figures, the first figure being "Dylan Baker. I never really noticed Dylan at the jams or on youtube because he's a very soft-spoken person, it was only after viewing his video "Manhood" that I gained respect and admiration for him. Long story short, Dylan decided to conquer an obstacle that had almost killed him in the past, but that's not what gained my respect. Dylan took his camera and his tripod out to the area, and completely on his own filmed his triumph. After getting about 20,000 views on youtube in just a few days, he took it down because he felt that the achievement was no longer his. That, to me, is respectable because in my own opinion, Parkour is about self betterment, not youtube views. I would have to say that my biggest inspiration as a practitioner is "Justin Sheaffer", founding member of Tranquil Movement. Justin has shown me nothing but patience in his teachings, and without him I can honestly say that as a practitioner I would have no-where near the understanding that I do about myself, and the discipline I practice. Justin, through calm understanding, has taught me that if I practice Parkour for the people around me, or to show off, then I become a slave to the people. For the majority of my years training that's exactly what I was. Parkour, in my own opinion, is meant to be something expressed and utilized as a method of freedom, but instead it was a cage for people to watch me through. Without Justin and his teachings I would still be trapped, and for that i'm extremely grateful. What is your goal with Parkour and your life? My goal as a practitioner is to become the best that I can be as an individual. I'm just as aware as anybody else that no-one is perfect, but I am a firm believer that the only thing a person can be perfect at, is being themselves. A Traceur has the ability to push himself past all expectations, not only those that are given to him by others, but also the expectations that he holds himself to. If one wishes to become truly free, one mustn’t see a wall as an obstacle, but rather as an opportunity to push himself over the expectation of staying inside of it. When one frees the mind of the idea that in order to act, one must think, then he shall be free of obstacle and shall truly flow with opportunity. Becoming a Traceur is truly becoming the embodiment of freedom, freedom expressed through movement, and free transformation. Through Parkour I wish to center myself and become the best that I can be as an individual and as a practitioner. Being a practitioner effects all other areas of my life, and because of it I can now asses any situation calmly and I can look upon any situation with any biased opinion because I see all angles and all opportunities any situation may bring. What is your honest opinion of Tranquil Movement? I found out about Tranquil Movement about 2 years ago with the "Winter Sampler" video. I didn't think too much of Tranquil movement until I had the opportunity to meet with a few of the members. Through Tranquil Movement I have found that Parkour is not about showing off or looking cool, but that it's a way to create a self expressed outlet of discipline utilized for the sole purpose of self betterment and calming ones own mind using the obstacles, or rather, opportunities around you. I have tried my greatest to spread the message portrayed at Tranquil Movement because they teach not only the idea of Parkour and how it can be utilized to handle everyday situations calmly and effectively , but also ones capabilities and understanding through the art and practice of movement. Greatest obstacle you are overcoming or have overcome? The greatest obstacle that i'm overcoming is slowing down. For the longest time Parkour was always about the next big trick, and I never utilized my strength as an individual or took the time to slow down and appreciate the true art of my movements. I realize now, that Parkour is a discipline and should be treated as such, slowly and at my own pace. Iv'e learned that if someone’s only goal is to become greater than what they are capable of in order to become better than someone else, then their bodies will break and deteriorate, so iv'e taken the time to stop comparing myself to others, and to just let myself become what I was meant to be at my own pace without force or hesitation. Week Two 08/16/2011
Vinnie Coryell Age: 19 From: Grand Junction, Colorado, USA Discovered Parkour, how many years ago: 2.5 years ago Team or communities: Aura Movement and the Grand Junction parkour community! http://www.facebook.com/pages/Aura-Movement/169065253147357 http://www.youtube.com/user/AuraMovement Who are your inspirations? and why?
I cant think of anyone that specifically inspires me. I find inspiration on a day to day basis, big or small. If I can think of someone who truly inspires me of the top of my head, its Max Runham. If you dont know who he is.. look him up. Youll see why :) What is your goal with Parkour and your life? My biggest goal in parkour, is to just do parkour. I dont want to stop. Its as simple as that! I definitely want to be able to train when Im 30 and older. My biggest goal in life. Would be to spend my life with someone special and travel with them. Explore and keep my wonder and imagination going! What is your honest opinion of Tranquil Movement? I love you all. I started hearing about TM a while back when I was still fresh into parkour. Always have had a ton of respect for all the guys on it and I love training with each and every one of the members! Greatest obstacle you are overcoming or have overcome? Greatest obstacle? There are no greatest obstacles :) Only different ones. Each obstacle is great in its own way. You have CF(Cystic Fibrosis) right? How does that affect your training? CF has been a life long thing for me. Since day 1. I've really just learned how to adapt my life around it just like with anything else. What is CF? http://www.cff.org/AboutCF/ Because CF is different with each individual, some of those symptoms do or do not apply to me. | Weekly, SHOUT OUT!Finding those who Inspire, Progress and Share.
